The Day My Helping Spirit Got Tricked 😭

Cartoon illustration of a young woman in a mall holding a phone with a happy "helping spirit" ghost, while a hand from the side crosses out "RANDOM GUY" on the screen. Thought bubbles above her head read "TRICKED!" and "Remember what happened last time, Riya. Think. A hundred times." The image symbolizes losing trust after being scammed for a phone call.
The moment the kindness died: How a simple request for a phone call in a shopping mall completely murdered my helping spirit and taught me to think a hundred times before trusting.

So this actually happened to me one random shopping day. I went to the mall with my elder sister – you know, just normal sister stuff. We were looking around, trying out dresses, and honestly… I didn’t like anything. I was just helping her choose clothes because somehow, she always finds something and I end up holding her bags. Classic.

Anyway, after a lot of walking (and judgmental mirrors), she finally found some dresses she liked and went to try them on. But before going inside the changing room, she told me,

The lock here is weak, so stay outside and tell people someone’s already in.

I said okay and stood there like her personal bodyguard. Everything was fine until – boom – two random girls suddenly came out of nowhere. Like, literally nowhere.

One of them smiled and said,

“Di, can you give me your phone? I just need to call my mother.”

Now, me being the over-helpful person I am, I said okay and gave her my phone. She called someone — nobody picked up. So she told me,

“If someone calls back, just tell me, okay?”

I told her, “Try one more time.” And guess what — someone actually answered! She talked for a bit, smiled, and then gave my phone back.

And then… she just left.
No “thank you.”
No smile.
Nothing.

Excuse me?? At least say thank you, girl! It’s basic manners 😭

But the real twist?
That “mother” she said she was calling? Yeah, it wasn’t her mom. She literally called some random guy!

That was the moment I felt instant regret. I was like — wow, she just murdered my helping spirit in broad daylight 💀

Since that day, whenever someone asks me for help like that, my brain goes,

“Remember what happened last time, Riya. Think. A hundred times.”

Moral of the story:
I didn’t lose my phone that day.
But I definitely lost my trust in “Di, can you give me your phone?” 🥲

  1. Shbetgame, eh? Not bad, not great. Kind of feels generic. Could use some work on the bonuses, I think. But the basics are there; just my two cents. Check it out if you’re looking for something familiar: shbetgame
